Every day we are alive is an opportunity to write our chapter in history. Over time, we all reach a moment when we must look back and reflect. Telling tales has always been my passion, but with my recent foray into blog writing, my goal is to share my personal stories. And having lived for three decades, I believe I have something to say, at least. I have seen and done a few things in this little life of mine. And as the legendary rap superstar, Nasir Jones once said in one of his songs, “All I need is one mic.” For me, all I need to empty my thoughts is simply a pen and paper.
Why “Intrusive Thoughts”, you might ask? The phrase generally has negative connotations to it, as these thoughts are said to be ideas and images that come to mind uninvited and typically unwanted. Not in this case. These are well-thought-out ideas that I specifically would like to share with you. They are intrusive because they are itching to come out and are almost bursting at the seams.
With these newsletters, I will be documenting my journey of building a technology start-up in South Africa. My Co-founder and I founded Carte (pronounced “Kaat”) in early 2022 and we have been stealthily building it since. As it now is about to go commercial, we are winding back the time on the last three years as well as documenting the journey in the present as we go. So, this will typically be by-monthly posts on our progress as we continue to build.
Outside of Carte, I have varied interests. I am an avid reader, a poet (with hopes of eventually becoming a novelist), and a sports fanatic. I play football as a pastime, go to the gym, and run. In addition to writing about tech and business, I will also share my thoughts and opine on many of these topics while also sharing sprinkles of my personal life.
This blog is not packaged as a motivational platform or anything akin. But if it achieves anything, I hope it encourages you and other young people to be more adventurous and daring with their dreams. My core belief is that whatever you want to see existing in the world, be the one to do it. Let your ideas grow wings and fly. We owe it to the world to create things that benefit humanity. The saying is cliché, but it rings true nonetheless; start where you are with what you have. Dreams alone are worthless, execution is everything. So, shut up and build.
Remember, big starts small.
